Meet Kori & Kuni

Co-Founders Kori Saika Chen and Kunikazu Mochitani met at the 2018 Global Tea Initiative Conference at UC Davis. Inspired by Kuni's innovative model that combines solar panels with organic matcha production in Japan, they founded The Matcha Factory—an Oakland, California-based tea company focused on zero waste and thoughtful hospitality. The company integrates the entire tea value chain, from organic farming to processing, using clean, renewable energy. Partnering with LEAF Co., a Shizuoka-based renewable energy developer, they bring high-quality organic matcha and tea to the US, produced without chemical pesticides.
