Co-Founders Kori Saika Chen and Kunikazu Mochitani met in 2018 at the Global Tea Initiative Conference at the University of California, Davis. Seeing Kuni's unique model combining solar panels and organic matcha green tea production in Japan was truly inspiring, and we set out to bring organic tea from clean energy to the US.

The Matcha Factory is a California-based seed-to-cup tea company built on the values of deeply thoughtful hospitality and zero waste. Our unique model combines the production of high-quality, single-origin, organic tea with clean, renewable energy. We represent the entire tea value stream, from farmers to processing, to your daily cup of tea.

We work with a network of organic tea farmers producing high-quality, organic matcha and loose-leaf tea without using chemical pesticides. We’ve partnered with LEAF Co., a Shizuoka, Japan-based renewable energy developer and tea exporter that builds renewable energy systems on organic tea farms.
